A Tribute To Old Vegas: ChiefDVB’s “Der Stuka”
“We were chiefin’ like dragons, drippin’ flows like paint homies taggin’…” — ChiefDVB

Water parks are big business. Many have fond childhood memories of rushing down waves on a “Shark Fin” or a “Barracuda.” In Las Vegas, a water slide is akin to an oasis, and on “Der Stuka,” ChiefDVB reminds us that summer doesn’t officially end until late September. The mystique of the track’s title is that only those who are OG Vegas will know the nostalgia “Der Stuka” invokes, and that’s just how ChiefDVB prefers it.

Las Vegas in blood and bone, ChiefDVB is far from polarizing. After opening for Twista inside a Gentlemen’s club, (it’s different out there) he gains new fans anytime he displays his music. It doesn’t matter if you’re brand new to the transient city, ChiefDVB’s rhymes will ground you in the street culture that remains the substance of the city, and also exacts its pride. Referencing “coffee & cannibus,” the emcee sticks to his own script of splitting the Dutch’s, this time with an assist from horror legend Freddy Krueger.

Producer Tradevoorhees brings out the vibes — literally! — over a thick, slow-rolling and hazy bassline sure to rock any Las Vegas boulevard. Just when you think you’ve got the pulse of the beat, Tradevoorhees transforms it, adding more vibes to ride out to. ChiefDVB cuts to the chase, reminding listeners that his source information is not only raw but untainted: “Sh*t, I’m writin’, I’m not a broadcast analyst, I take my own data, so they can’t tamper it.”
From Dark Artz to Arctic Emberz to “Der Stuka,” ChiefDVB’s recent output is the equivalent of a three-peat championship, and all three are reppin’ Vegas to the fullest.
